Illiniza North (2 Days)

General Information

Illiniza Summit - 2 Day Tour

The 5126 meter peak of Illiniza Norte is an excellent acclimatization climb before attempting higher peaks such as Cotopaxi. The climb to the summit follows a ridge with some difficult sections, but the route is non technical. Good physical fitness is required.

Considered to be extinct, the twin peaks of the Illinizas were once one volcano. Illiniza Sur is a challenging climb for experienced climbers, but the slightly lower peak of Illiniza Norte is a non technical climb, trekking along a ridge and scrambling over rocky and sandy areas. Occasionally ice and snow may be present requiring additional caution.

One guide generally accompanies up to four climbers; there is a minimum of 2 passengers for these tours (tours are possible for one climber with a private guide, but significantly more expensive). All climbing tours are high risk activities; travel insurance is strongly recommended. While we select the most experienced, quality operators and guides available, neither Eos Ecuador or the tour operators can accept responsibility for accidents or health issues. For all climbing tours, weather conditions or other safety related factors may result in the cancellation of the climb. No refunds are given in these cases.
