The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest area on earth, covering large portions of eight South American countries including Ecuador. Ecuador, although a small country, is considered to be the eighth most biodiverse country on earth, with almost 20,000 species of plants, about 1500 species of birds, 840 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 340 species of mammals. Many of these species call the Amazon region home, with over 500 species of birds found in certain areas and as many as 400 species of plants in a single hectare. The Amazon rainforest is also essential to humans, providing about 20% of the earth's oxygen and containing over two-thirds of the world's fresh water in its rivers and lakes.
The Ecuadorian Amazon is relatively accessible, allowing tourists to experience the amazing beauty and tranquility of the region and to see a variety of unique plant and animal species. A visit to this region should not be missed; it is an experience no one will ever be able to forget.
Eos Ecuador offers lodges and tours in the Cuyabeno Reserve and the Yasuni National Park, among the most biodiverse regions on earth, along with other options deep in pristine rainforest. For those with less time or simply looking for a few days of tranquility and recreation, our section on accessible lodges offer beautiful lodges closer to populated areas offering plenty of activities, although with less diversity in flora and fauna. And for an authentic cultural experience, we can arrange visits to traditional indigenous communities for an Amazon visit you will never forget.
